Cuteness at High Decibles

Abby had her first preschool field trip yesterday to a neighborhood fire station. I think the picture accurately describes her enthralling experience.

It turned out to be only a 30 minute field trip so Alonso dropped her off here at my office earlier than planned. While I knew I wouldn’t get MUCH done with her with me, I tried to answer a couple of e-mails (and a voicemail) with her sitting on my lap. After telling Jess via e-mail that Abby was visiting me, Jess sends an Auntie’s Hello with her (e-mailed) response. Foolishly, I tell Abby that “Aunt Jess says Hi.”

Abby stops coloring with the myriad of highlighters she had confiscated from my desk and looks at my computer screen and says,

“Jess…what you say?! MOM! WHAT SHE SAY???!!

Apparently the three year-old doesn’t fully comprehend e-mails. And I’m sure the co-workers would appreciate LESS YELLING from Abby as she awaits an answer from Jess on the computer screen.

Ironic that the people that sit the closest to me have no children. Abby just might be the best birth control out there…

No More TV For Her

This morning Paige asked me if I had ever seen the commercial for Limeaway...she said it would take care of the spots on the bathroom facet.

I told her that just CLEANING it would work wonders. I know she's only 8...but she didn't take my hint.

Little guys say it better

So, I was getting my hair cut at Supercuts one evening last week. It was very near closing time--about 8:45pm. In the shop were one of the workers and her two sons she had just picked up from daycare (they looked like twins of about nine), the woman who was cutting my hair, and me.

The women were talking about picking up kids after work, getting home, etc. The woman cutting my hair started complaining that when she gets home her 13 year old son follows her around and wants to talk, talk, talk about all kinds of stuff. I was about to tell her how great it was that he wanted to talk when one of the little guys said "But he just misses you SO much"

Francis Scott Key's Other Lyrics

I may have already mentioned that Isaac recently learned The Star-Spangled Banner at school. He went around the house for two weeks singing it and was so impressed that his mom could play it on the piano.
So this morning, when we were getting ready for church I had one of those wish-I-had-a-hidden-camera moments. A hidden tape recorder would have done just fine. Isaac was kneeling at the side of my bed with two Lego characters. Putting this in writing will not do it justice, but I have to share!
He was playing pirates with these characters, and singing (not acting) the scene out to our National Anthem's melody.
Starting the tune at 'O're the ramparts we watched':
"The children were lost, and the captain was dead.
When they asked them for food, all they brought them was bread."
Then
"The prisoners escaped, and they chopped off their hands..."
This went on for 10 minutes, and I tried to burn the whole song into my brain without success. This is all I could remember. This guy is a genius. I know it's not a reverent or patriotic rendition of The Star-Spangle Banner, but it was absolutely priceless.

I Make You Crazy, Don't I?

I needed a change. I needed to change the look of our site.

I liked the blue...do you like the blue? I like the blue. But enough about how much I like the blue...how do you like the blue?

hP6

I have recently completed the 6th Harry Potter book. My predictions:
(If you haven’t read HP and you would like to – don’t read my blog)

*Harry is not the ‘chosen one.’ He is not the one who will have to kill Voldemort. I think it will be Neville.
*Harry and Ginny will get married.
*Harry will become an Auror, Hermione will be Head of Hogwarts, and Ron is going to die. (just kidding, I don’t know)
*Sirius is not dead but trapped between “worlds.” In the 7th book Harry will bring him back to help him destroy the horcruxes and R.A.B. (JK7 – who is R.A.B?)
*In the 7th book Harry will be able to talk to Dumbledore like Luke and Obi wan.
Ok, so these are long shots, but it is fun to let your imagination take over.
-Yeah, I really don’t know how to spell.

When Television Brings It All Together...or Home

Last Thursday night, I was watching Nick at Night. The girls were in bed, Alonso was in his office and I was scheduling/planning. (Yes…with the TV on.) The Cosby show started and not even five minutes into it and I knew what episode it was.

The Anniversary dinner for the Grandparents. The first one they did. I was stoked.

I sat through the whole episode and, I’m not joking, was just so excited that I happened to catch that one. It’s one of our family favorites. I couldn’t help it.

So why when the first line of Ray Charles’ “Night and Day” did I completely BAWL MY EYES OUT?! Hormones? The stress of my crazy life? Exhaustion?

Probably all of those in some respect. But I know it’s mostly because I miss my family. I miss all of us together. I miss that we all love those moments in television and movies that is a piece of our history. Stuff that we’ve loved all together…that’s just who we are as a family.

I miss US. I can’t wait until Christmas.
